What is section 148a civil procedure Section 148A of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 is a provision that allows any person who claims the right to appear before the court on the hearing of an application to lodge a caveat in respect of that application. A caveat is a formal notice or warning given by an interested party to the court that the court should not pass any order without giving prior notice or hearing to the caveator. The purpose of this provision is to protect the interest of the caveator and to avoid the multiplicity of proceedings. The caveator has to serve a notice of the caveat to the applicant and the court has to serve a notice of the application to the caveator. The caveat remains valid for 90 days from the date of lodging unless the application is made before the expiry of that period.
